• Pear chutney

Pear chutney 

added on 21/8/2010 by DaveI made this to go with potted rabbit - it's dead easy to make. The original recipe was to accompany grilled goats cheese.


  • 1 red onion
  • 2 pears
  • Sultanas - about a tablespoon or so
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 tablespoon dark muscovado sugar
  • 1 tablespoon redcurrent jelly
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar


  1. Cook the onion in olive oil until well browned
  2. Add the ground spices and stir for 30 seconds
  3. Add the peeled and chopped pears followed by all the other ingredients
  4. Cook for 30 minutes or so until the liquid has reduced to form a thickish syrup consistency
